(Re)Imagining Roofing
Building A Better Shingle To Shelter Our Homes and Safeguard Our Planet
Every home needs a roof, and with every roof we have an opportunity: an opportunity to help builders build more responsibly, and an opportunity to help homeowners live more sustainably and comfortably.
13 million tons of asphalt shingles are landfilled every year. We're building a circular economy to recycle them for new uses and keep them out of landfills.
See How Shingles Are Made
We constantly assess what goes into our residential shingles and the processes we use to create them, all with the goal of making higher-performing residential shingles that contribute to a more sustainable future.
Lifecycle of a Shingle
From sourcing to manufacturing to recycling initiatives, every stage of a shingle's life impacts its sustainability. View this infographic to learn how long residential shingles typically last and what happens during their life cycle.
The Anatomy of a Shingle
What shingles are made of directly impacts how they perform and how they contribute to building more sustainable homes. Read about the makeup of the most popular residential roofing material in America and what performance features to look for.
Asphaltica Shingle Recycling Partnership
CertainTeed is committed to creating a circular roofing shingle economy. In February 2023 we acquired Asphaltica recycling technology that lets us reclaim post-industrial and post-consumer shingle scrap. Instead of going to the landfill, the shingles are pelletized and blended into hot mix asphalt. The pellets are water-resistant and can be used in variable climate conditions.
A Roof To Last A Lifetime
The technology within CertainTeed shingles gives them longer lasting durability against the elements. Replacing roofs less frequently means far fewer resources used—and lower impact on the planet.
