The Franciscan Replacement Hospital

The Franciscan Replacement Hospital is a six-story hospital with a full basement and mechanical penthouse. The contractors were introduced at the very beginning of the project—during the budgeting phase—and once the design and construction process began, the contractors worked with the architects directly on various elements, which included making the hospital sound-resistant to respect patient privacy. Franciscan Health wanted the hospital to stand out amongst others in Northwest Indiana and this project, on the interior side, was really driven by STC ratings on walls and NRC on ceilings.

Since the client expedited the project, the contractors had to complete the building in a timely fashion. Additionally, the design basis for this project did not originally include CertainTeed products. However, the drywall contractors and general contractors worked very hard to get CertainTeed approved and accepted by Franciscan Health. One of the great accomplishments is that the contractor was able to get CertainTeed's SilentFX on all high STC walls even though the design team was advocating for the National Sound Break. Also the black product on the outside of the wall is GlasRoc sheathing that was modified to have the black that the customer wanted

Altogether, there was a total of $1,709,315.00 spent from the contractor on CertainTeed products. Of that amount, there was $1,112,665.00 spent on CertainTeed drywall products specifically. While the project does not feature high-profile architectural elements, it provides the hospital’s patients with the comfort of walking into a building with their privacy respected through the use of sound-attenuation drywall.
